9Uk series question.

Okay, I'm almst near a decision...

but I need input on something:

Was there ever a DRAMATIC improvement in PQ, color reproduction, clarity between two consecutive generations of panels?

...meaning...will the new 9UK offer so much improvement over the 8Uk series?

I understand that know one knows yet, but as they say: "history repeats itself", no?

anyone on this, please?
About all you can do is look at the PQ of the 50U compared to 60U. It seems like the reports are mixed - although IMHO the unhappiness with the new bezel design may be interfering with the ability to objectively evaluate the PQ.

"dramatic" is a subjective term - what some people consider "dramatic", others may call "insignificant"... ;)
A slight improvement is what you should expect. Slightly better black levels and contrast. Nothing major. Many people actually like the previous gen Panny to the new one, even though on paper the 9th gen is better. Go figure.

I would agree with this. I have an 8uk, and this is the gist I got from reading all the posts about the 7uy to the 8uk. Better, but not earthshakingly better. Me, myself, and I: I probably could have been just as happy with the 7uy as an 8uk. I presume the 8uk to 9uk will give a similar response.
I have heard that the "brightness" has increased slightly, but did not mention about the "contrast"(also reflects black levels) being increased. The panel glass on the 60/600U is "lighter", and has less glare. It would make sense that the 9UK would be the same way when they come out. The colors on these new upcomming panels seem to have more vibrant colors and contrast(increased in the default setting).

I would expect that the 9UK panels will be incredibly sexy and sleek looking.

But, how many of them actually compared them side by side and using the same source?

7UY and 8UK is "Neck-to-Neck" in performance. In terms of pure picture quality, 8UK=7UY. The only difference is 8UK is "slightly" brighter but has equal amount of black levels as the 7UY. I have also read that the 8UK is slightly more resistent to burn-in. Everything else is exactly the same aside from bazel design.
alot of stores where selling of stock of the old 50u models at a discount when the new 60u models came out. So many stores had both right beside each other with the same feed. Suprisingly, quite a few people preferred the 50u over the 60u. They stated that the 50u showed a more natural smoother look to it, while the 60u was overly sharp and had more noise in the image.

Exactly my conclusion when I viewed the old and new 37-inchers side-by-side. Not sure I noticed any video noise, but the sharpness in the 60U made it somewhat harsh, IMO.
A "little birdie" told me the 50phd9uk MIGHT be shown for the first time at the Infocomm conference in Orlando. Do they usually have press releases with these shows or, better yet, is anyone in Orlando going to this show for some reason (June 3-9)? Would love to hear the specs (and a release date) on this plasma...
