I have no doubt this has been answered but I simply cannot find so

thax in advance.

RE the 4k, If I purchase I wish to place on my home LAN and pull shows off to my pc.

Are these files mpegs?

Is the replay DHCP and will pull an IP address off my router?

Since the replay is not a MS product, how do I pull these files off?

FTP?

Thank you again.

SwapDV isn't the only choice - ReplayPC, Replayer, etc etc. The protocols are pretty completely documented now.

And FTP is possible, with a little work -- use the shell command "call ftpdInit 0 0" and you have FTP access to the whole filesystem, not just the bits exported with httpfs.

Ok, maybe just two more q's.

If I can ftp, what advantage would the SwapDV be?

Also, I've just started, can anyone advise where I can purchase

a 4k unit?

I also guess I need to run a additional line from my dish

to this unit. (I already have a multiplexer on my Dual LNB

to four (4) outputs, 3 of which are run and being used)

Thanks again fella's.

With FTP you have to guess the corect file names (Replay uses some sort of timestamp naming protocal). SwapDV does that for you. In addition, with SwapDV you can take the file you transfered to your PC and stream it back to the Replay it came from.

www.replaytv.com or www.amazon.com. In a few months, they are supposed to be available at mass market electronics retailers.

The Replay does not contain a satellite tuner. If you want to use Dish you have to either connect one of your existing receivers to the replay (controlled via an IR blaster) or get another, dedicated sat receiver for the Replay.

Also, to get the ftp server running, you have to run a shell command, which (the first time, at least) takes more work than it's worth for casual use.

looks like I may have use afterall for the

Dazzle DV hollywood I recently purchased.

I guess I can use the s video i/o's to improve a bit

on my quality.

Now when the sat receivers produce a 1394 iLink

I can kick it up one more notch.

Any suggestions where I can purcahse the 4K now?

Thanks again.

At this point you may want to just wait a few weeks. The new 4500 Series is coming out next month, and you might prefer to just get one of those.

It's not "some sort of timestamp naming protocol". The filenames are just timestamps for the recording.

You do not have to guess the filenames, just grab the guide snapshot with replaypc and then run guideparser on it. The filenames are listed.
