I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum or in the receiver forum, so feel free to move as needed.

My parents are using an HK AVR20II that they purchased years ago as a HTIB. They currently have a 5.1 setup and have a pair of speakers outside they use when they have company. Due to the lack of inputs, they manually change out the speaker wires that lead to the receivers between the surround speakers and the outside speakers. Is there an A/B type switch someone can recommend that is reasonably priced that they can use instead?

Basically I'd be looking for a switch where both pairs of speakers can be plugged into, with one output (consisting of L/R speaker wires) to go into the receiver.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks!

You can run the speaker wiring to simple toggle switches ( ) so that your parents need only flip the two switches to send the L and R signals to the outdoor speakers. But what is troublesome about your question is WHAT signals they are actually sending to the patio speakers. Processed rear surround sound? Can't sound very good in the remote speaker location. Better solution is a slight (and very low cost) upgrade in the amplifier department, going to one that has an A / B switch that will power an additional set of stereo speakers.

It sounds like your parents like running the speakers indoors and outdoors at the same time, otherwise why would they use the rears (which I agree with the above post, can't sound very good) instead of the mains. What I would suggest is a simple switch from Radio Shack and an impedance matching outdoor volume control for the outdoor speakers. The problem you will encounter when putting four speakers on the L and R outputs is you will drop the load if they are 8 ohm to 4 ohms making it more difficult on your amp. The matching volume control will solve this issue.
