A good DVD to test the Ruby with

Just watched "The Island" last night on the 004. WOW! I think I've got a replacement for "The Fifth Element." Wonderful saturated colors, punchy contrast, extended resolution and nary a hint of EE. Who needs BlueRay?

Check it out! A real test for the Ruby Newbies :p

All we have to do now is find a scene where Scarlett Johansson jumps of a building or something. Then we'll have an excuse to look at her over and over again, just like we did with Milla Jovovich. :) And Scarlett looks even better if you ask me.
Thats funny....I thought you were asking what DVD to show off with. I was gonna say The Island. Incredible picture and the colors are so rich and saturated.

Too bad the movie sucked camel butt.
Actually, The Island was a Netflix rental. I bought the story for the first 40 minutes, and then - WOW - everything collapsed into pure crap. And Michael Bay has become so predictable. The same shots over and over again in every movie he directs.

Nevertheless, this picture is darn near perfect.

I saw the Island on a flight to London from SF

Loved the first 40 mins and thought the critics were so wrong. Then I suffered the next 95 minutes and sat there wondering what on earth was going through the minds of the producers, studio and director when they green lit this piece of junk.

One thing I've noticed with my Q004 is how painful it can be when the source is suboptimal and how spectacular the image looks with excellent source. For example, some HDTV such as Empire Falls, Deadwood, and Rome looked spectacular while other programs make all the characters look anemic. I would love to compare some of these sources with the Q004 and a Ruby.
Perfectionist2,

The fix is in the gamma curve. Until WmP arrives this is what I've done:

1) Set the Gamma at 3 (Qualia remote)

2) Redo black/white levels using Avia, etc.

3) Set the Black level at 1 (Qualia menu)

4) You may need to up the brightness by 1-2 clicks

Enjoy. The blacks will be a tad crushed, but this removes the haze that 004 owners report.
