Is there a specific preference or user requirement for a camcorder? I am asking because these days all manufacturers don't appear to bother making small, compact consumer camcorders with cutting edge features like they did a while back anymore so you would be better off buying for your wife a small, and compact hybrid point and shoot camera that also shoots good video instead.
At the top in terms of both video image quality and price is the Sony RX100 VII (or version 7). If that is too much the Sony HX99 works extremely well in both still pictures and video also up to 4K and costs less than half of the RX100. Both cameras are truly pocketable, weigh about the same and have about the same size and appearance. I use the cheaper one for my casual video shoots and on vacation and can assure you the video quality and features are more than enough for most casual use.
I am not a Sony fanboy but as I have used mostly Sony cameras for my casual video taking over the years I am more familiar with them than other makes from other brands.
