A New Cable Challenge

1298 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Lp85253
After James Randi passed away a few years ago, the idea of a $1 million cable challenge vanished with him. Until now!

In what can only be surmised as amazing showmanship, Dr. Tist of First Run Copper cables has decided to bring the challenge back, but with a twist. Instead of challenging the likes of Steve Guttenberg, Michael Fremer, etc. to PROVE they can tell the difference between one cable and another - which never went anywhere because no one could agree on a format that would be scientific and let them sit in their own living room for 200 hours breaking in each cable before spending six months listening to organ music - First Run Copper is challenging the NON-BELIEVERS!

This is truly epic. Will influencers who say they don't believe that cables make a difference really stand up and take this challenge?

They say that they give a 100% return policy up to 10 days. But yet they say that the cables take 250 hours to break in. Well 10 days is only 240 hours so how can you fully break them in within your 10 day return policy?
I do believe in good cables make for good sound. But at $650 per inch. Lol. That’s a little over priced for me. So I would need 508 feet of speaker cables and that would cost me $3,962,400.00 for all my speaker cables in my movie listening room of my house. I’m sorry but I think I have a Lotta other things that I could spend $3.9 million on. And it’s just totally idiotically insane even if you were to just do your stereo for left and right and need 20 feet of cable in the price just for that small system would come to a green total of
$156,000.00. Are you kidding me ? I’m not trying to get into the debate of yes cables make things better and your stereo system. Well of course it does, using regular zipper cable as opposed to a good quality pure copper 12 gauge or 10 gauge on your nice high-end stereo system that you may have $5000 in an all year RCA’s or a good quality in our shielded and you have the power cables that can handle the amperage of your amplifier and so forth and they are shielded. Of course it’s common sense but $650 dollars per inch that’s just an idiot throwing his money out. No pets Joe Biden spending money like there’s no tomorrow

Would it be possible to have some sort of setup that uses an RTA to measure the differences in the signal rather than relying on someone's ears and opinion?
A precise measurement is the ONLY way to determine if a cable is different. If two cables measure exactly the same, they will sound exactly the same. A perfect cable would measure exactly the same as the output of the amplifier. So a perfect cable should do nothing to the sound.

Nobody ... Blatant advert..
The whole thing is a running gag - full name of "Dr. Tist" is Connor Tist (con artist), and the "photo" of the "founder" of "First Run Copper" is Nikola Tesla.

Many of the better online forums have a Humor and Off Topic sub-forum to keep stuff like this from messing with the on topic threads.
