Once we have a viable QAM decoder PC card, what

obsticles will stand in our way from being able to

decode that data by use of a PC smart card reader,

and the smart card out of our legally paid for hd

reciever. And would it even be legal?

There multiple types of QAM for starters. Secondly and probably most important is that even if you could demodulate the signal correctly your still going to have a security layer to bypass in some manner.

What are the different types of QAM, that you know of?

We are assuming, for the purpose of this discussion,

that we have a viable QAM decoder card.


I am assuming there is only one way to decode any

particular flavor of QAM, which, on an encrypted station,

would produce a demodulated - encrypted output stream.


Is this a correct assumption, or is the encryption somehow

a part of the demodulation process?


If not, and a QAM decoder card can produce demodulated

encrypted output, hopefully it is a SOFTWARE problem to

decode the stream.


If this is the case, and you have valid decrypt keys on your

LEGAL card, stuck into a reader for your pc to get at them,

I wonder what steps must be taken to apply that key to

the data.


I hope someone with experience with encrypted QAM can

answer these questions.
