I'm about to launch into building an HTPC and am currently selecting components.

I see several people using two optical drives!

If I use something like the Sony DRU-510 which appears to do it all. (I'm speaking somewhat generically here, as other units may have similar capabilities)

Is there any reason that I should need an additional optical drive either DVD Rom, or CD Rom?

Probably a silly question, but the case I am considering has only one external 5 1/2 drive slot.

Sometimes it's the little things that get you!

If you're ripping DVDs, most burners are locked at 2X speed for copy protected discs. DVD-ROM drives for the most part are not. Even my old Matsushita 8513 will do the maximum speed for that drive while my Pioneer A05 will only do 2X...
