Can someone please tell me IF now that my new TV has (R,Y,B IN) I can change my S Video OUT on my DVD to "component". Will the standard A\\V Cables (R,Y,W) work for this , just use the White jack as the Blue????

It may get a signal, but it will look soft losing sharpness due to the lower bandwidth of the audio cable - get a good component cable made with RG59 coax cable. Beware some cheap component cables are no better than cheap A/V cables - look for thick coax cables.

Michael-

For short distances (like 6 feet or less), you may not notice any difference between 'true' video/75 ohm/RG-59 cables and the use of video/right/left for Y/PR/PB as you asked. An easy test would be to just try it, and see if the component looks better than the S-video connection. Certainly, if the audio parts of your cable were causing a problem when used for PR and PB, you could try switching them around (use white for Y and yellow for PB, for example). If there is a problem, you would see a color or sharpness difference just from switching the white and yellow in my example.

For interlaced analog (480i) to an analog set the difference will be marginal. But with a digital/HDTV set use of component allows for the higher quality 480p progressive format.

NO Monster for me, can't afford them anyway, paid $15 for 6' Recton set; but 1st test a BUST. Put in Blade Runner to check out the new "better than S-Video" connection - YIKES! All grainy - much worse than I have ever seen - also something kaw-kaw with my DD Sound out of my receiver now, have been racking me pee brain trying to figure out the WHYS.

About the sound - I never entered the DVD Setup Screen, it just started playing - need to try it again and see if one has to choose 5.1 - it was playing pro-logic. The PQ - is the big puzzler????

No reason to bash Monsters here.

If you don't see/hear a difference, don't spend the money.

FWIW, the 2m Monster Video 1 component cables are very reasonably priced, though the AR cables available at Best Buy are a better deal, especially as Monster's RCAs seem to be very loose (they pull out if you breathe on them.)

I won't go into the arguments about whether they improve audio or video quality; if you see/hear an improvement they're worth it; if you don't, they're not. :)

I find a set of Calrad component video cables are excellent they use true 75ohm cable and shielded connectors. 6foot length is $24 and 12foot length is $33. I believe it also comes in 3foot and 25foot lengths.

I believe Recoton manufactures AR cables.
