My sister's set up is:


Sony BDP-S350 output HDMI to Yamaha RX-V463 then out via HDMI to a Mitsu WD-60735.


With the reciever on all is well but when off we get no audio or video passthrough to the TV. Am I missing something here? It should just pass through if you want to watch without surround shouldn't it?

I don't know the details of that AVR, so I can't say for sure. Some that have the ability to pass A/V when "off", but have to be configured to do so, and they are not really "off", just in a hot standby mode that uses about 40% of the power of being fully on.

For me, I connect via HDMI from my DishNet receiver to my AVR and, of course, DVD, BD, etc to AVR. For watching TV without surround, I also connect my DishNet receiver to the TV with component video and composite audio and just switch inputs on the TV with one button on my Harmony remote. I could configure my AVR for pass thru mode, but choose not to as my solution works better and cheaper.
