Question for the receiver experts: Which sub-$1000 A/V receivers offer a MONO surround mode, whereby all the incoming channels are combined into a MONO signal and output ONLY through the CENTER channel?

My older Parasound AVC-2500 prepro had just such a MONO mode-- no matter what the input source, regardless of format, it consolidated everything into MONO and sent to the center channel speaker only.

I've been unable to figure out if, for example, Denon's current receivers do this but Onkyo and Yamahas do not, etc. etc..

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Sounds like a high end feature. Yamaha has a mono movie mode, but that's the opposite of what you want - it assumes the SIGNAL is mono, and creates a surround sound field.

It's like you are in some crappy theater with poor accoustics. All you need to do is pour soda and popcorn on your floor for an authentic experience
