Here's one I haven't seen mentioned: (unless I missed it)

With the surge of wireless PDA's and WAP enabled phones. (I'd settle for a Palm PQA) I'd love to see the option of sending an e-mail to myreplaytv.com and have it add a program to the guide.

Maybe formatted like:

user=gadgetguy

pw=mypassword

ch:401 (or use call letters like HBO?)

st:8:00p

en:9:00p

G:Y (guaranteed)

#: 1 (number of episodes)

and if ya wanna get exotic:

PS:1 (Pad the start)

PE:1 (Pad the end)

Notice the simple, short lines? Easily input on a PDA or WAP phone. nothing required except the first 5 or 6 options.

What do you think?

G

Imagine a businessperson, traveling via airplane, reading USA Today or the WSJ. seeing some info about an upcoming special, but having no access to a full blown browser.

Cool Idea!!! Perhaps they could add your user name to the email address, so you could send record requests to:

[email protected]

When you create your MyReplayTV.com account, define what your handle should be and your password... I suppose sending to [email protected] with the name inside is the same thing!

Ya know, this could also provide a mechanism for someone else to send you a record suggestion! On the MyReplayTV.com service set up a Suggestions page for each user which could be used to turn on/off the requests. Perhaps initially just a global on/off switch. Later one could add the ability to turn on/off auto recording based on who sent the request. The ReplayTV devices could also add another scheduling class, perhaps "Request" which would have a lower priority than G/NG. Then also allow this to be set on each "filter" on the Suggestions page...

Wow, then ReplayTV could create a suggestions service based on what you watch, plus your friends/family could send you suggestions ... "A more personalized take on the TiVo's thumbs up/down feature!". Oh, yeah, I like this idea!!!!!!!!!

This all sounds very cool - really!

But, to be pessimistic: is the day coming where instead of inane "jokes" that friends of mine insist of forwarding to me my friends will have the ability to tell my ReplayTV to record something "they think I might like".

(without taking precedence over my own set recordings) (with super-large HDs this wouldn't really affect anything)

Ugh...no thanks, I've seen what shows my friends watch! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

I figure if anyone can pick stuff I would be interested in, it would be another human, vs. some funky algorithm. Perhaps one could subscribe to one or more "critics" pick lists. Find the critics you like and combine them with friends and family to create the killer "AutoFiller" feature! If your not interested in "VideoSpam", then don't enable it!

For example, there was a short clip about the EV1 on "Silicon Valley Business" this weekend. The show airs three times, I happen to know someone with an EV1 and I could have sent his ReplayTV a suggestion to record the second/third airing of the show. Perhaps appending a short comment at the end of the request that would be sent as a message, i.e.

Checkout the EV1 in this show, nice color eh!!!
