Great! Now this drive is the perfect drive! Can burn CD/DVD, rip fast and is RPC-1.


Must get one for DIGN case...


You are very lucky in the US to have the possibility of getting the drive for $239. In Denmark the price is $342

Anybody know if there is any FW available that breaks 2X dvd rip limit on the sony 500A DVD/CD burner ? I could take out my dedicated DVD ripper if there is some hacked fw avail.

At $169 I'd purchase it in an instant. In fact 2... one for me and one for a friend. The perfect drive for the DIGN case, which only accomodates a single drive.

Currently the DVD-104 is in, but not being able to burn anything is quite inconvenient.

OfficeMax runs the special on the Cendyne (rebaged pioneer 4X 105 drive from time to time), it's a heck of a deal when they do. I have seen it ran on special about 4 times in the last 6 months, so keep an eye out for it.

I did the firmware update on the drive and it does rip better, after finding a Dual layer dvd that was not protected (that was fun to find, most gave an error when testing it with Nero), it performed well, not as good as my 16X drive on the side of it, but admirably compared to what it ripped at before. Definitely an option for those who have only one DVD drive in their setup.

There is a recent firmware update for the SONY DVD Burner that permits 4x operation.
