Planning to get upgrade HD player and receiver. For about same price, I can get either the Onkyo 705 and Toshiba A35 or 805 and A30. Which combo do u think I should go with?

TV is Panny 58PZ700U 1080P-capable so need at least A30. Torn as watch movies/TV much more than listening to music so can live w/ 705 but like the better video side of 805 and A35 DVD-upscaling. Of course, 805/A35 solves all problem but MI is not doing so well right now so trying to stick to a budget.

Mod - Will double post in Rec forum as this applies to there also.

I have the A35 805 combo through B&W Speakers. Just an Amazing combo. I would get the 805 THX Ultra 2 if you have a large room and if you dont mind the words TrueHD or DTS MAster on the receiver then Just get an A3 (will still be able to hear them). I have played an a2 with the 805 and an A35. If money is an object skimp on the player as the receiver will be the brain for all of your Home Entertainment Center.

BTW I have the 58PZ750U an can not tell the difference between the A2 and A35 playing HD-DVD's

This is interesting as I have an A2 now. Only thinking about upgrading A2 as some have said the A30/35 are much better than A2 (don't really care about start-up time). How's the A2 v. A35 SD-DVD pics to you?

I'd put the extra money into the receiver, since it'll probably be with you longer. The 805 is overall a much more stout unit than the 705.

Best option: get the 805 and wait for a closeout on the A35.

705 is an incredible receiver! not sure how much more the 805 has to offer but for certain, if you go with 805, go with geko29's suggestion because the A30 won't send hd audio bitstream. Get the A35 and you won't be disappointed.

Right now I have the 705 and the A30, and i cant complain. But with the recent price drops on the players, im probably going to get an A35....but for now I will continue to be happy with my A30.

OK just ordered the 805 as 6ave pricing now is way too good to pass up. Use CAT6OFF 6% off code.

U guys just probably convinced me to go w/ the A35. Thx.

I have the 805, wouldn't trade it for anything less! Good buy!

Standard Def is a little better on the A-35. I watched 3:10 to Yuma on the A2 and thought it was great also.

Listen to Bladerunner in true HD and Pans Labrenth in DTS master at THX Reference level is Just Amazing. I watch a lot of Films but have heard nothing that can compare to the A35 805 combo.

Just In CC has the A3 for $100 and the A30 for $149. New promo.
