I have been reading and researching the heck out of Dish deals and I am just about to go with a local guy. Take AllSat for example.
The Dish 6023 is $400 if you self-install it. I want the "I like 9" deal so I will need to have it professionally installed. AllSat lists this for $160, but that is only for a standard install. The additional dish installation (for HDTV) I have heard from this forum is an additional $99, but for now let's say it's $50. Shipping at AllSat is $20
Total for Dish HDTV set-up and "I Like Nine": $630
The local guy I called up was very nice. We talked about his price versus the internet prices, both of us agreeing it was confusing. He offered me the 6023 with installed for $600 but after talking a bit (my house is pre-wired) he offered me $550. He also offered me an additional reciever at his cost (501 for $320) and would run that one through the home distribution at no additional cost. Add tax for a comparison price.
Here's where is gets confusing, and how I think I have it figured out. The "I like 9" requires professional installation, but the deal says standard installation is free. I think that somehow the internet dealers are discounting the package by keeping some kind of installation credit. This is the only way I can think they're able to make money (or break even) on selling the hardware with a free self-install kit. If you buy over the net and want professional installation, which is the only kosher way to get "I Like 9", you'll need to contact an installer. It is hard enough establishing a relationship with a dealer, let alone an installer.
I am 99% sure I am going locally to get my system. By the way, I asked how long it would take from buy to install. The local guy told me 2 days. Two days is awsome and to me worth the potential extra, had I mis-interpreted the pricing. How many of you pay for express shipping when you order online?
Hope this helps...
