I own a PDP-5080HD myself and love it, but a friend of mine is NOWHERE near critical and wants a best-value but not neccesarily as good 50" for WII and mostly SD viewing, have been considering the Panasonic TH-M50HD18 Walmart has... any opinions?

There are still a few LG50PG60 left and they I believe are a great value for the price.

I've seen the Panasonic 50px80 and the Samsung pn50a450 both at well below the grand area. The Vizio has also been reviewed favorably for a low priced entry level set also but if it were me I would stick to either the Panasonic or the Samsung.
yup the panny th50px80 at sears recently is a great deal.
The Panny PX80 can be had for under $800 if you look around & it has a front HDMI Input which the Wal-Mart model lacks.
This is an easy question to answer - the Panasonic TH50PX80!!

But........ to own this set and not have HD programming is a waste of a really great TV.
TH50PX80, I am looking for one of these too. My Step father is a boob, and needs all the help he can get when it comes to shopping. Looking to pay 900 Canadian if I can find one. He was looking at a Samsung for 900 at BB before I put the brakes on that purchase.
PX80 is the way to go. Or the Sammy A400/450, if your bolder.

The HD18 at Costco has been in and out of their stores/website over the past weeks. Two weeks ago they ran an in-store $150 discount on it, which has since disappeared. With the discount, it's competitive with the recent Sears pricing on the PX80 (which itself may have taken a breather for a week or two).
