One major disadvantage of decoding in a PC is the sound card. A PC's mainboard is a relatively noisy environment (from the RF point of view), and this _can_ effect sound. Decoding in an external box can help, as external decoders usually aren't such noisy environments.


Not to say that everybody will hear this difference, but it's one (of possibly many) potential problems.
