Hey all,

So I'm helping my mother build a home theater, and it all went well until the last component arrived. We went with the Sony DAV-HDX267W, a reasonably priced 5.1 system with a built-in 5-disc DVD player. Normally I'm not a fan of integrated units, but simplicity is important to her (one less component to deal with), and it was one of the nicer wireless systems (my mother insists on wireless rear speakers) we could find without breaking the bank.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I set it up. It's a capable, great sounding unit that does an awesome job on DVD's, BUT, it has absolutely NO inputs aside from a single stereo connection. At first I was sure I was missing something (and yes, I should have checked better before purchasing, but it never even occurred to me a home theater system wouldn't have a bevvy of available inputs for other equipment).

She's got a DirecTV receiver that can do 5.1 Dolby Digital on high-def channels, and now there's no way to get that signal into the HTIB. To make matters worse (as I considered getting a separate head unit and using the rest of the system), Sony's wireless speaker technology is extremely proprietary and can't be connected to any other type or receiver.

Barring returning the thing (which is possible but would be a PITA), is there ANY way around this? I can't think of one, but I'm still kinda hoping I'm missing something. The unit sounds great; I just don't understand in the least why they'd intentionally put that much of a handicap on it.

They're for people that just set it up and go without a thought of upgrading anything. The lone stereo input is probably for something like a tape player or VCR or some such.

*sigh* So I guess we're out of luck. I *wanted* to go with a standalone unit (meaning no built-in DVD player), but I can't seem to find any wireless HTIB's that are like that anymore. I own a Kenwood from a couple years ago that does just great for me (not as snazzy as the Sony wireless technology, but it works), and it's standalone, but Kenwood stopped making home theaters (at least for the US market).

The things that bugs me the most is that the system *is* really nice...it'd be perfect for her if it just wasn't this issue. Heck, even if we had to buy another receiver and run the DVD through it, that'd be fine, but Sony's wireless technology won't work with anything else.

Guess it's either send it back and get something else (if I can even *find* another wireless system, which may be dubious) or stick with it.

Any further advice would be appreciated.

Samsung HT-X70 would fit you fine. It comes with a upconversion DVD player capable of playing DivX/Xvid (even from DVD-R, also mp3 on DVD-R). It's wireless ready, so you can add the wireless rear at an extra cost. It has only one extra input(optical). If I were you, I wold have bought the Pioneer HTS-GS1.. its simple to setup with only of your requirement not satifying( no wireless rear).
