I have a Harman Kardon 6.1 amp at home and it puts out 66 watts per channel for my HT. I also have a rather over-sized center channel that I have built that is extremely power hungry and requires much more power than my 66 watts.

If I were to buy an external amplifier such as a Rotel for my center channel, is it possible to use it in conjunction with my Harman Kardon's internal amplifier or would I have to set the Harman to run in direct mode and purchase all external amplifiers to power all of my speakers? I've read around the manual and not been able to find much that was clear in either direction.

If it has preamp/line level outputs, they should be active all the time. Just add the amp to the center channel output jack and leave the other speakers connected as they were. Of course, you will have to recalibrate the channel levels again.
