I was just wondering if it would be possible to add an SDI input to a projector, wich does not have it from "birth". The new Dila (model 150 i think) sounds very nice, but it sure would be a killer if you could throw in an SDI input.

Goodness Lars, AFAIK, the 150 is but a glimmer at this point, and won't see the light of day until the 4th quarter.


It may have an SDI input already.

We will have SDI (HD-SDI) input available on our M5000 and above projectors but not likely on the lower end models until the chipset comes down in cost. As you know, the lower end projectors don't have input module slots and adding SDI internally in the projector would be asking 98% of the buyers to pay for something they most likely would never have a use for.


I do think you will see DVI on the lower end models in the not to distant future.


For demonstration purposes, we have been using an HD-SDI to RGBHV interface from AJA and it works quite nicely.

Yeah, I know it's bit dumb to ask this question about a projector that is not even out yet. I just saw some info on the M2000, and I couldn't see anything about an SDI input, so I just figured that since the 150 is based on the M2000, it too wont have an SDI input. But your right, just wait and see.


But, would it be possible to add an SDI input to an existing projector, like the G15?

According to a "source" at JVC, it is theoretically possible to add (or more accurately, to convert) one of the existing digital inputs to SDI. Bits are bits, after all. However, AFAIK, JVC has no plans to introduce the SDI input onto any of its projectors this year or next. If a projector is so modified by a user without an OEM license, it would void the warranty, obviously.


However, both TAW and Mark Levinson are apparently OEM licensees, and they plan to introduce modified DILAs in the next several months (at a price premium, of course, to JVC's versions). Those versions may well have SDI and/or Firewire inputs, but the two companies are not talking at this point.
