Adjust Overscan on DLP

592 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  walford
I've got an Akai PT50DL14 aka a Samsung HLR5067W. In 780p or 1080i I'm losing some of the picture, I'm assuming due to overscan.

Anybody know how this can be adjusted?

Overscan is not normally a problem when using the component,or DVI/HDMI interface unless you are using a PC and are trying to run PC Desktop applications. If this is the case you can switch to the VGA interface or apply Overscan Compenstion in the PC graphics drivers or using an application called Powerstrip.

In the case of Overscan of TV broadcasts. All networks assume that your TV is overscanning by about 5% since this is the way CRT Tvs have worked for many years. Due to this they do not include any meaningful content near the display edges and this has a positive effect of making meaningful content larger.
The problem is with my HD DVR box from Comcast (Model 3412) which is connected via component cables. When I try to use anything other than 480p it cuts off the edges as I described in the first post.
That is totally normal as I said in my first post since you are using component the TV by design overscans (Zooms in) the image in order to emulate a standard CRT TV and that this overscanlning is assumed to exist by the TV broadcasters so there is nothing by extra background contained in the outer edges of TV broadcasts.
