Advantages with newer hardware?

Been a while since my last build and I have an empty case. My HTPC is basically a complex DVD player (ZP, DeScaler, FFDShow) and works dandy. I am a hardware junkie and am looking at stuff like dual core CPUs, PCI-e, pure video, AVIVO, etc. but can't seem to find any advantage for my use. Am I missing something?
