I am in the process of purchasing a 58" plasma and have narrowed my selection to these two TVs. I will be purchasing from Brandsmart USA. Here is my dilemna:

1. Samsung PN58B860 - New for $2079.00 plus tax - I am slightly worried about the buzzing problem I have read about but I will be sitting 15+ feet away. Slim design is nice.

2. Panasonic TC-P58V10 - Floor Model for $1898.98 plus tax - The salesman said it had been hanging on the wall for about 6 months running apprx 10 hrs a day. I am worried about the hours of use and the black level reductions I have been reading about with the Panasonics. Does not include box, remote, or paperwork. It does come with a 2 year Brandsmart warranty.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would never buy a TV that was used that much, plus it doesn't come with the remote or paperwork.

I would buy the Samsung out of those two to begin with and given the V-10 has around 2000 hours give or take it is a no brainer.

I have a friend who just got the 65V10 and although it is a great set, I actually think my Samsung 58B650 looks better overall PQ-wise. Plus I really didn't like the double pane on the V-10, it was pretty annoying off axis.

But as always, you are going to get some people who like Samsung and some who like Pansonic, so it all comes down to which one YOU think looks better. I really think it is a mistake buying a V-10 with that many hours on it, plus most of those hours are in "torch" mode given it was in store.

I would agree. Both sets are good, and a very tough decision if both are new. Your decision is easy, though. Spend a little more and buy new.

Definitely get the Samsung. The salesman SAYS it only has 10 hrs day/6 mos of use, but do you KNOW that for sure? Sounds to me like he's giving you a line, one that sounds semi-believable hoping you'll go for it. I think you can verify that in the service menu, but regardless if it's the truth or not, like everyone else said, you'll be much better off going with a brand new model. At least then you know what's been watched on it, and that you're the only one that's used it.

I was debating between the B860's and V10's as well (tho in 50" models.) Wife and I went out this past weekend to compare first hand for ourselves after reading TONS of info here and on other sites. Store had both setup with HD signal, and I just couldn't get over how much better the Samsung looked in comparison to the Panny. Much better colors, cleaner focused picture. I even double checked and played with the settings on both but they were already at optimal settings. It honestly made me start wondering why everyone was so gung-ho over Panasonic in the first place. Yea, it's nice, and definitely better than most the other sets out there, but not the "end all" greatness I was believing it to be.

IMHO, the Samung was just the better set by far. Needless to say, I reserved the B860 and will be picking it up this weekend (only put a deposit down to lock in the sales price, have to wait for our tax refund this Friday to pay off the balance.) But judge for yourself. Go compare in person, then ask yourself if the difference in quality (and additional hours of use if applicable) justifies the difference in price. I'm thinking it won't.

Had the Sammy...took it back because of the buzzing sound...tried to put up with it for a week. Has a nice picture...no doubt , but I noticed fast motion had some breaking up in the picture...and movies looked like a soap .

Called Cleveland Plasma...saved me some $$$ , couldn't be happier...my movies look real..picture is great..my blacks are great... I don't see any loss at all .

I would do it again..if I had to... just my opinion.

Uh...you don't get the soap opera effect on a plasma.
