I'm looking for a pc no bigger than an average sized dvd player. I am currently using one of those dell mini towers in my entertainment stand but it looks very out of place. Main factor is $. Love the size of the NUC, but too expensive. I don't mind building.

Here is what I want to do with it:
Go online and check FB, or watch a tv show through their website. Maybe look at pictures.
Prefer Windows based so I can connect to shares.
Basically, it will serve as an internet portal in case I need to go on-line.

I will NOT be:
Gaming, watching movies or using it as a HTPC.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Wouldn't a Chromebox do all of those things? I use mine for Openelec/KODI duty but I imagine it can do everything you want including being able to install a remote control app so you can use your phone for a keyboard and mouse.

If you need windows the Alienware Alpha may be your best prebuilt solution with a very low profile case.

I'd cast my vote with the Chromebox suggestion. If you really want Windows, I would go with a low-end NUC. I have an i5 NUC with 8GB memory and a 1TB HDD. We use it as a family computer and it is absolutely great. It is nearly silent, hardly uses any power, is fast enough for just about anything but gaming and is very stable. The i5 is overkill for your requirements, but they do make cheaper models. If I remember correctly, they go as low as Celeron or Pentium in some of those units, but even the i3 options are pretty cheap.

There's the HP Stream Mini.

It's not too expensive, and can fill your needs perfectly.

It just so happens that it can be used as an HTPC as well.

Lots of great suggestions here. Thanks guys. The Alienware and Zeus are too expensive and overkill for my requirements. I like the HP mini idea. @ ~$230 that's not too bad. I like the Zotac pc too. I will have to put together the parts and see if I can get it under $200. I don't even think I can put together a NUC for under $200.

I have built quite a few of these for my high end customers. It blends in perfectly with HT decor. It is the same size as the Dune Base 3.0/3D. Looks like a high end DVD player. I hate those small form factor cases/enclosures. They look like they came from Walmart.

That's a nice setup ssr. Love the look of that case. A bit too high-end and overkill for my needs but an awesome build for a HTPC.
