Hi,


My purpose of getting an Audio system is to watch TV and movies (NOT music). I am not a fan of 5.1 or 7.1 systems, since my room does not have the space for rear speakers.


I was thinking of Bose, but I know it's a rip-off for the money.


I am interested in other options (i.e. tower speakers).


Would you recommend me a system (I want all equipment from the receiver to the speakers to the sub...etc. to turn out being less than 1000$) ?

The Aventage A-800 has a 3 year warranty. The RX-V867 has 2 yr warranty but also add an ethernet port for internet radio and Pandora streaming. But if music doesn't matter then this feature may be useless to you. Both receivers have dual HDMI outputs which might come in handy if you use a projector too.

I am going to suggest something a little different from the above post. The speakers are the biggest impact on sound quality so I wouldn't spend half the budget on reciever.


What receiver features are important to you?

What are you hooking up? cable box, blu ray, Wii....?

That's $985 plus tax on the receiver at Fry's.


I have the RC-10 and RC-LCR in my bedroom setup and got the Denon 591 from Fry's for $199 at the early part of the year during one of their great sales. But I actually listen to quite a bit of music in my setup and appreciate the quality sound from the RC-10s.

The size of my room is 18x12 inches. I have no problem with the size of the speaker anyway.


I generally listen to music from my computer. So the system is for movies and TV (anything that you can watch). Right now, I am hooking up the cable box, and blu-ray (I have to buy it too). But no game consoles.


One more thing. Are there any stores that I can go and try these systems out (like the ones you've mentioned). I love in California, bay area.

well, if you're in the Bay Area you can definitely go to Fry's and get the Onkyo receiver. They also sell the Polk Tsi400 which is basically the same as the Monitor 60. The CS20 is bascially the same as the CS2 center. Best Buy also sells the Polk Tsi speakers. So if you like the way they sound then you'll have a good idea if you'll like the Monitor 60 and CS2.


The Energy RC speakers wont be easy to find in stores since they were discontinued a couple of years ago. You're lucky they're still available at all as the RC-10s had been gone for over a year. They just suddenly popped up again at Vanns.com. The RC LCR is pretty much the same as they show up on ebay now and then but I'd never seen them at Overstock until a couple of weeks ago.


The Bic F12 is only available online to the best of my knowledge.
