Advice on buying a powered subwoofer

355 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Mazeroth
I am going to buy a powered subwoofer. I am planning on paying less than $100 total (incl. shipping). Any advice on which kinds? Thanks!

I know that's not much money but I'm only 17 and don't need much better.

E-bay is your best bet.

Yeah $100 won't get you much. That's for sure. But we've all been there and there is always a place to start in this great albeit expensive hobby.
I agree with Jeff. I think E-bay is your best bet. Just do your homework on how E-bay works if you haven't used them before and make sure you don't get scammed.
DEFINATELY don't buy a brand new subwoofer from a store at retail price for $100. I can gaurantee it won't even be worth turning on :D I work at Circuit City where we have around 5 subwoofers for $100 - $120 and they all sound disgusting.

Look into Ebay if you're comfortable with it and see what you can come up with. Then give us the links to the auctions and we can help you pick the best one. Just don't pick the $200 retail Polk 202 subwoofer. It's horrific :( I bought it for my computer and it's one of the worst sounding subwoofers on the market.

Also, what other speakers do you have that will be hooked up with this subwoofer? That may help a little.
