Here's my dilemma, I have a 42" panny X1. We are thinking about giving it to my parents and getting something from a 42 to 50" size, models C2, S2 and G25. The one thing that disappoints me with panny is that you have to get the G25 to get a VGA input and because of that I am looking at the Samsung 450 model.

I would like to be able to hook a computer up to the tv to watch more content, my computer only has a VGA port. I want to use a computer to stream stuff from fancast, hulu and many other places. Here is a few ways I am thinking of going.

C2 panny with a roku box and HTPC hooked up with a 50' HDMI cable.

I don't think we will be going with the S2 as the G25 isnt much more and would solve the computer problem.

G25 and use existing 5 YO computer for streaming fancast, hulu and other content.

Samsung 450, roku box and use existing 5 YO computer.

The one problem I have with the G25 is I don't think there are many places to watch internet tv. Netflix and a few other channes is all.

If there is something else I should be looking at please comment on that also. Thanks

My price range is 500 to 1000. I would like to keep it lower though if I can. Can we talk about prices now? I didnt think we could.

Heres my delima, if I go with a cheaper panasonic I cannot hook up a computer to the tv and I would need the G25 for that. If I get the samsung even the 450 model I can hook it up via VGA. I would still need a roku box or something similar.

As to the 720 vs 1080, I dont know if 1080 is needed for us as pretty much all of our content is less than 720.

If I hook a computer up to a tv will it look good if I am watching fancast, hulu and the history channel?

I think the S2 model is out because at that point I can step up to the G25 and not have to purchase a roku box and the price would be similar. Thanks

What about the 60" LG PK250? Sending you the link now over PM. It's on sale. That would be a huge step up for you. It's a hair over your upper limit, but if you can stretch it, those extra 10" go along way... or at least that's what she said.

BTW, what computer do you presently have? Low end HTPC video cards can be had very cheap so that you can hook up over HDMI. Let me know your setup and maybe I can give you a few tips to help.

The computer I have is a 4 or 5 yo HP 7334n running xp. I know in a few years we will be upgrading the computer and will have a HDMI on it. We also have a netbook with a VGA output but I dont know if that will work for the tv, its running windows 7 starter.

I guess my options would be cheaper tv+roku box and maybe upgrading a computer as we can maybe sell this to my parents since they need a new computer. If I can get netflix on the tv then I can spend more on the tv and use the computer to stream the twit network, fancast, hulu and other channels. That is what I am trying to achieve.

I do not know anything about the LG and will look into it. It seems to be a little on the high side for what I want though.

Is it ok to talk about prices on this forum? If so I could list a few different ways I am looking into.

Even if you do get the g25 for the vga port, it won't display at 1920 x 1080. You're much better off dropping dollar on a video card with an hdmi output, which can be had for a very modest sum. Then you'll be slightly more future proof and it won't matter which tv you get, providing your eyes are happy with it. Slight caveat though - make sure you have a compatible pci slot on your pc motherboard before settling on a videocard. Many of the more recent cards require pci 2.0.

technically we're really not supposed to, which was the reason i sent it over PM instead. sometimes they'll let it slip through if it's something general talking about trends in general, but for the purpose of specific price comparisons it's typically a no-go.

feel free to list what you're looking into. you can also fire me a PM if that's easier for you.

PMs are fine. Deal/discount prices and where to find them in posts are not.

Sorry i'm new here but can someone please explain the reason for the no price talk stuff? I mean if someone knows where a good deal is, whats the harm posting it on the forum so everyone can take advantage vs PM?

This forum, like most, is supported by companies that pay to advertise here. Posting prices/sales from their competition could be bad business for them.

If it were me I would get a video card with HDMI output personally. They are really cheap now. I wouldn't buy a tv to match the output of my computer but would have a video card to match my tv. Although your PC may be too old to support this........
