I hate to say this, but I'm downgrading from my Sony KDS-R50XBR1 to a 40 or 42" LCD/Plasma. I'm dealing with a room with lots of light coming in, but if I purchase a Plasma I would get blinds and my main watching tv in after my kid goes to bed so lighting might not be a issue. I play some xbox 360 on it and I normally sit about 7-10 feet away at a slight angle of each side of the tv. Never straight on. So here are my view of the top few tv's in my price range of $1000-1500:
Sony KDL-40W4100 120 hz (top choice)
Sony KDL-40V4100 (3rd choice)
Sony KDL-40V3000 (last year model heard good things)
KDL-42V4100 (don't know much about it)
Plasma
Panasonic TH-42PZ700U (2nd choice)
Panasonic TH-42PZ800U (might be out of my price range).
I've looked at the Samsungs as well, but they are also a little more expensive, but I would consider the newer models that compare to the Sony 40V and 40W with 120 hz.
Let me know what you think?
