Hi everyone. I've been reading this board like crazy and absorbing as much information as I can soak in. Thanks so much for sharing all your experience and wisdom. Man I wish I'd had this knowledge before I started piecing all this together years ago. Life would have been much easier than trying to figure it all out myself. If nothing else, I have benchmarks now to convince my wife that I'm not crazy.
Anyway here's the scoop: you've inspired me to revamp my theater. Here is a link to some photos of my own DIY project, taken awhile back:

(Please click on the "Gallery" button to see photos. The site is a "mock" storefront built for a school project and I've kept it up for fun. I don't have a theater business although I'd really like to. Dennis must love his job).
Anyway, here are some goals I'm trying to tackle:
(btw, the room is about 16 X 17 although most of the back wall is half-height and open to a stairwell, which presents some acoustic design challenges. I presently have curtains visually closing off this back wall).
1) Elimination of the ASC Tubetraps and what to do with the windows on the right side. I've got 2 16" traps in the corners and 4 11" tubes at the primary reflection points. In the years I've had them, they haven't grown on me and in my mind, clutter the appearance of the room for guests as "strange objects." After seeing many of your excellent designs, I am thinking about possibly going with something like TheaterShield below ear level and GOM fabric covering the walls. A major design hurdle is the plantation shutters on the right wall. They unbalance the acoustics of the room and I can't cover them with anything, which was a huge part of my decision for going with the TubeTraps. Also, the corner traps are to remove bass standing waves. How do you achieve this benefit without the traps?
2) Crown molding / ropelight uplighting. The ceiling is only eight feet high, so I've been leaning toward using crown molding instead. If using the molding, how does this affect the tri corner effect? I've got CornerBusters there now, so these will probably need to go.
3) New front curtains. My present curtains are fairly cheap panels from Target. I'd like to find a source for nice (although affordable) theater curtains that I can open with a curtain controller. I just purchased a BTX controller and will volunteer to post a review if anyone is interested.
4) What to do with the ceiling? It's white and reflects a ton of light from the projector. I'm reluctant to paint the ceiling and am considering fabric or something like that but it's already low and I have lights in the ceiling.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice you have time to lend.
Best regards,
Robert
