I currently have a sony all in one micro satellite system, which has a 100w x5 reciever, a sub, and 5 small 100w satellite speakers. Im looking to upgrade, but for now, would upgrading the fronts and centre to bookshelfs or possibly floorstanders be beneficial? How would it sound? What advice does anyone have on this subject?

Cheers

I would just keep them for now...and use your money to start with the heart of a good Home Theater........a new receiver. IMO the sony receivers aren't all that. I would use your money to buy a good entry or mid-level Denon, HK, or possibly Yamaha....again just my opinions here.

After that...start looking for good speakers..Im a HUGE fan of internet only companies...so start with Ascend, Swans, Rockets, etc...they all have decent price vs. performance and GREAT customer service.

I was going to make some comments earlier but figured it would just sound like Sony bashing. So what I will say is, if your receiver is anything like mine (Sony STR-DE995) look for some "very efficient" speakers. Otherwise I'm with Cooper,.....

well what if I upgraded my reciever to one of the new yamaha ones and then added the fronts and centre? It would be a whie before I could get the money for the sub and rears. Im specifically looking at Krix speakers.

Well, it probably would be very beneficial... I upgraded my old Sony STR-750ES a few months ago to a HK7200 and the difference was enormous even at normal listening volumes.

Then I upgraded some old floorstanding speakers to new full range floorstanders (PSB Image) with a matching center and I think I got another equivalent quantum leap. I get plenty of bass out of the towers.

I'm still using old Polk surrounds and no sub and although a sub is next on my upgrade agenda I'm damn glad I did the rest of the system.

I've never heard of Krix, but find something you like and enjoy your system!
