Hi all -- long-time reader, first time posting in a couple years. Any advice is much appreciated.

So here’s my situation. I’ve been eyeing the B&W CM10’s for a little while now. Auditioned a bunch of speakers in that price range at two local shops (Kef R, PSB, Def, ML, etc.) and CM10’s were easily my favorite. After reading hundreds of posts on here, though, I can’t help but think I’ll be short-changing myself if I get the CM series instead of the 800 series ... I’ve got no problem buying used, and it seems it would be worth it to wait and save up more for maybe the 803D’s or even the 802’s if I can get a cut-rate price somewhere down the road.

Budget is an issue, but I figure that I’ll keep these for a very long time so I want to get this purchase right.

So, here are my questions:

1. To anyone that’s heard both the CM10’s and the 800 series (803/802Ds) ... is the price difference worth it? It may mean waiting another year for me but I’m willing to do that to get it right. (Worth pointing out here that I felt the CM10’s were way better than the CM9s, but I still wonder about the series above).

2. From what I’ve read, it sounds like B&W will upgrade the 800 series in the next year or two. When that eventually happens, will it be easier to get significant discounts on 802/803Ds? With speakers like this in general, how much of a discount might we be talking about when a newer series comes out?

3. Any thoughts on previous series 800 (S/Nautilus/older D) against CM10s? I don’t know much about these series. Again, would be looking at 803/802 range.

4. If I end up waiting longer to save money, I’ll probably grab a pair of discounted Monitor Audio RX6/8’s to hold me over. From what I heard, they were my second favorite to the CM10s and are super affordable. Any thoughts on those?

Thanks for any help!

I've always liked the sound of B&W speakers and my only complaint has been, for me, they've felt a bit overpriced. Buying B&W speakers "used" hits the mark perfectly.

Funny, I could have posted your thoughts as my own today. Went and looked at speakers with a dealer I have used for years Friday. They now have Paradigm as well as Golden Ear. The new CM10 captured my attention, more so after learning you don't have to use the black base...didn't know that until today. I went back today to compare the CM10 and Studio 100 and came away wondering if I should wait for 804D or 803D. I feel like the CM10 or Studio would be another midrange solution, a good one...The 804 or 803 however would be my "last" pair. I have had NHT VT-2 from 1996 and there fine, its just with winter spending too much time here convincing myself I need something new.

Hard to really say in a showroom, but I thought the 804D held their own well. I would love the 803 but the 804 wasn't bad.

The CM10 is a nice sounding speaker but if it were me I would hold out and save for the Diamond series. I like the Monitor Audio RX6 as well. I would consider it a bit less laid-back than the B&W sound and that's not a bad thing.

Do you have the components to make these speakers sing? Else is just a waste IMHO.

That's what the rep mentioned. Currently just have a receiver although I am using an older Proceed AMP5. But that to could be rectified.
