Inherited a home with

1. 6 outdoor speakers and a broken amp.

2. In ceiling speakers that were connected to a Niles Ics. Old system. barelyworks. 6 zones.


I was given some quick advise but not sure how to implement.


A. What is a reasonable priced yet hign powered amp to drive the six outdoor speakers.

B. What can I replace the Niles system with? Would a Sonos product take all six zones speaker wire? Would that same product be able to connect to the amp?

C. Were would an Oknyo nr709 fit in to the mix if at all? I already own that.

Does the Niles ICS have keypads that you want replaced? Or, do you want to use phone/tablet control exclusively?


What music would you like to listen to, e.g. Pandora, digital music files, FM, SiriusXM?


If you want keypads, take a look at Russound C-series, with their music server.

Thank youfor the reply. I dont necessarly wany to replace the Niles....I was told its old and hard to deal with.

I wouldl ike to be able to listen to Pandora and other more recent things.

The Niles now is not working anyway. trying to figure it out.

I have 8 outdoor speakers and 8 ceiling speakers.

Not sure what kind of amp or set up I would ned to replace the Niles.

Did you call a Niles dealer to check it out? Keep in mind the dealer will try to sell you a new system.


If you can get the ICS working, a Sonos box could be used as a source.

With Niles.....I have and they gave me a run around. No volume and the mute button is light up.


Dumb question...in my attempt to figure out the wiring.......The adcom 7500 has speakers connected to it......but also has some output wires running to the Niles....I believe.....what would the amp be outputing to the niles?

Could be a 12V trigger.


Read the Niles install manual several times. You need to hire someone knowledgeable, or become one, to get that Niles working.

One mnore dumb question.

What can i use to drive mutilple speakers. I have 8 oputdoor speakers...zone 1

Then I have several indoor speakers. I guess that would make three or 4 more zones.

What kind of an amp or receiver will take all of these speaker wires?

I guess an typical 5:2 or 7:2 is not enough.

Just confused on what I need to drive mutliple speakers .

Or in other words....what can iu use to replace the Niles GXR2 and the broken Adcom 7500.

If I cant figure out the wiring....maybe I can work backwards. Knowing this basic info may allow me to figure out the speaker wiring.

You'll need volume control, and impedance matching, somewhere in the system.
