Affordable Seating Solution

Hi everyone,

I need some help. I have been searching for a seating solution for my HT and so far no luck. Here are my requirements...

1. I would like seating for 8 people in two rows of four.

2. I would like the rows to not exceed 9' in width

3. Need to keep budget at about $1600

I was thinking of the love seat route, and do two rows of two each, but it's tough to find love seats that are 5' wide or less. I don't need leather either. So I guess a love seat with a small footprint and skinny arms that do not flair out would do. Also maybe a sectional I can have that would just go straight for about 8". Anyone out there care to share their solutions or have any ideas??

Thanks,

not sure if berkline 088s will fit if you get a dual loveseat combo.

how about a larger triple couch/berkline up front and 4/5 movie theater seats in the rear (or vice versa).

FLEA BAY??? I'll look it up. didn't get that PM. My only concern is that with the prices I have seen, the "movie seats" alone would run me close to $1500 for just 3 of them. Are there more affordable options in a cloth model perhaps??
I'm not sure I'd want to watch a film in a seat that's less than 2.25' wide, especially if you're in a full house. Part of my dislike for real theaters is the mass of humanity.

I've also been looking for cheap seats (since I can't really get big chairs shipped to my location for anything near reasonable prices), and one alternative I've looked at is office seating. You know, the nice leather tilt 'executive' chairs like at costco, for $200 ea. Pop off the casters, screw down to the floor, and voila, seating. :)

There are theaters here that do this (and serve food and beer). That has to be the most uncomfortable way to watch a movie that I've ever done. There's nowhere to put your feet to comfortable recline, my back hurts and the recline can't lock to I was constantly bobbing...

Actaully I emailed you the message. They were/are $30 each from Duluth MN. You can find really good deals on the used ones if you are will to paint them. When a place is trying to 600 them it's remarkable how fast the price drops. Remember if teh name of the product you are buying has the words "home theater" in it you can expect the price to at least double.

I'm not looking for the fold down uncomfortable type of seating. More sofa style. I don't need them to recline, but that would be nice. I may follow your advice and do three of the nice leather theater seats in the front and a long sofa or sectional in the back on a riser. They look pretty nice and a pretty good price. The ones I am referring to are on The Bay and are only $950 with free shipping. Pretty good deal.
You're right those are not comfortable. One of the biggest gripes about a commercial theater is the sh**y seats they force you to sit in.

Sounds like you have a plan. Make sure you look at the powerbuy in the accesories threads for recliners.

Happy New Year!!

I agree...movie seats SUCK!!!! I will check out the Power Buys.....
when you want to pay $200 or less per seat ($1600 for 8 seats) authentic movie seats are one of the few options.
I did two rows: Movies chairs in the back (6 of them) and right now a couch in the front. But plan on replacing the couch.

True.. unless you don't look for "theater seats" and try a more conventional sofa solution or love seats that can be found at good prices. It's just the combination of couch, love seat that I am trying to figure out while keeping it under 9'. I'm going to try to play with the measurements a little and see if I can stretch it some.
Check out these love seats....

This may work perfect. I can do the 3 HT seats I found on EEEBay for about $900 delivered and than do two of these for the back. In order for my seating to pass the WAF, there has to be a "cuddle factor" built in so I can't have all HT seats. Hence...the love seats. This will seat 7 for about $1800. A little over budget, but what isn't. If there is more than 7, than I can just get some bean bags. I doubt anyone will complain. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Happy New Year!!
I'm doing leather couch with 2 built-in-recliners in front (main seating) with two risered rows of 4 seats each behind that of (restored) theater seats.
