I'm trying to setup my home theater system with a new soundcard... the onboard motherboard was supposed to support digital audio output (It's an MSI Barebones with Realtek HD Audio), however when I ordered the expansion slot cover with the SPDIF Optical & Coaxial outputs it stopped outputting sound all together--neither digital nor analog. Conundrum.

So, as a result, I'm forced to sacrifice my wireless pci card for a soundcard... I want to do it on the cheap, but not sacrifice DD & DTS over toslink/optical spdif output... whats the best solution?

If you're looking for a highly-regarded optical out, for cheap, try this:

(can't post a URL, so look at Turtle Beach website for their USB Micro)

Basically looks like a USB flash Drive, but will output DTS, DD, Dolby pro logic, line out, all through the toslink connector. Search "turtle beach micro" on the forum for more info - this little guy will run you ~ $30 from retailers.
