I need some advice on where to place the AIM Five Wide speakers for rear L/R in a 5.1 setup. These will be ceiling mounted ( ceilings are 8'). From what I understand in a typical 5.1 setup the rear speakers should be set a 110 degrees left and right of the listening position. Does that still apply with the Speakercraft WIDE speakers, or should they be placed more directly behind the listening position. Lastly what is a good distance for these speakers considering they are aim-able.

Thanks,

G

About five feet to either side of the couch and about four-six feet behind works well in most situations. With a typical three-person couch or cinema seating row, I would actually try aiming these toward the farthest listening position rather than the closest. In the sweet spot you would basically be 'missed' by both of them. That arrangement might create enough diffusion to sound about right.

Thanks Ben. The aiming to the farthest listening position is something I haven't thought of. Here's a link (quicktime required) to what I am thinking. As you can see I'm kind of bounded on one side by an exterior wall. Also behind I'm bounded by some skylights. I made the speakers red in the illustration so they stand out a little bit
