I sat down to watch the season finale of ThirdWatch on my 4000 only to find that everything that should have recorded since 11pm last night was just a short (zero length) program. Normally when the box has trouble tuning you get a series of short programs. This was just a single short program per show. It will change channels (the HUD shows up, but every channel is black. I rebooted the box and it seems okay. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is it a known issue? Any ideas what triggered it?

Yup I ran into this before and there are some old threads on this that may be hard to dig up. The bottom line that I got out of the threads was there is some bug with the built-in tuner. This happened to me twice in two months but now I haven't seen the problem again for several months. So cross your fingers and hope the problem just goes away.

The same thing happened to me last week (4508, unhacked, RF Input = Cable, Input 1 = Digital Cable Box). After I rebooted, the tuner started working again.

Freaky. My new 4532 did this to me this morning. Didn't record a show at 6AM (short clip) and couldn't tune to any channels. Reboot and fine.


Unfortunately my 4504 failed to record a 6AM show this morning too and I couldn't figure out why. I wish it had at least left a message about not being able to record a guaranteed show. I went ahead and deleted some non-guaranteed shows and it recorded the 7AM show with no problem.


Both were using the RF tuner with cable input.

me too! 4508 with RF input=cable. it happend last week too. i was actually gone on vacation for 10 days and the tuner stopped working only on the last day it was to record stuff for me. i needed 3 re-boots but now all is well.
