ALR for Ceiling Mounted Projector with AT?

3742 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Sibyl Chou
I am having trouble finding ALR screen that is designed to work with a ceiling mounted projector - there seem to be plenty on the market for short throw projectors that project from below. Is ALR for traditional overhead a thing? To make it more complicated the screen needs to be accousticly transparent. Willing to go high-end. Any suggestions out there?

thank you!

Why you can’t go with Elite screen? Most projectors are mounted on the ceiling. What’s so unique about your requirements? Sorry if I missed anything.

No unique requirements, just that I will have ambient light and so an ALR screen would be nice as a way to mitigate the impact of that, but the elite screens ALR screens are all designed for UST (image beemed from below instead of above) From their site:
This type is also specifically geared toward UST or ultra short throw projectors
Thanks for taking a look at my question!

Shoot! I ordered the CLR aeon cinegrey 3D. But my projector is Epson 5050ub. So this screen is not compatible with this projector? Better start another thread and ask the community

Actually you answered my question! Looking at the aeon cinegrey: Aeon CineGrey 3D® Series it has this note:

For Standard "Long" Throw Projectors. (NOT Compatible with Ultra/Short Throw Projectors)

so you should be fine. Also means I can use the AT version, thank you!

That’s funny coincidence and we ended up helping each other without realizing it. Today will be a good day!
***Check this link and explanation between ALR and high contrast screens. I think you can find a screen that works for your situation -

Stewart HALR material is likely the best and can be perforated.

Severtson HCNC microperf is what I'm using and works well.

Screen innovations also can perforate their slate 1.2 and 0.8 gain material as well for ALR+AT qualities. Hope that helps.

Thank you. I e-mailed the stewart guys and they recommended FireHawk G5. Any opinion on the difference between the two? I'm a little wary of the viewing angle on on FIrehawk G5.

This seems great - wide viewing angle is pretty cool. Got a quote. How far away do you keep your speakers behind the microperf, and how much control do you have over the lighting?

The LG CineBeam HU810PW

Thanks all!

My speakers are 10" away from the screen. I have complete control of lighting, but needed an ALR screen for lights on sports viewing. More details and pictures in my signature.

I would defer to the manufacturer regarding halr vs Firehawk differences. I've seen the halr at CEDIA and it looked great. I think Jeff Meier at accucal (pro calibrator) was also a fan with respect to color uniformity/ low artifacts and other screen attributes FWIW.

Pay attention to throw ratios as well with ALR materials to avoid artifacts.

I was able to compare my severtson material at a local Best buy to the screen innovations slate materials and they compared favorably with less sparkle artifacts and comparable ALR properties.

I have my Projector on 50% laser power and it still looks like a giant TV with the lights on
hello,i am the projector screen manufacturer.i can recommend screen to you.If you need,i can provide sample to you for testing
