Am I crazy for going purple now?!

So I just went purple... crazy given the current situation, but there were a several titles that I want to see out in HD but not BD that I really didn't want to watch in SD if I didn't have to. I ordered the A30 and figured $180 isn't a huge price to pay. Of course, we'll probably here on Monday that the rest of the HD studios are going Blu now that I have gone purple, but whatever!

Now I just want to know why Netflix doesn't have Zodiac in HD!!

Hey, whatever makes you happy. Too many people waste their time worrying over how "their" format is doing. It's just movies. The HD DVD players are not going to stop working at midnight on May 1st.

I just want to watch movies in HD......HD DVD or blu ray.....I don't care. Neither should you. Freddy
Is a good choice, since Paramount and Universal seems exclusive to HD DVD right now. HD DVD players also are made to be great upconverters, which are lacking in BR players for obvious reasons.

I'm getting the impression they're going to hold out for awhile which is why I went ahead and ordered one. But like I said, my purchase pretty much guarantees that they wont be holding out much longer
My PS3 already makes a great upconverting player so I'll probably stick with that for everything else.

You are definitely not crazy.

The cost of getting into HD DVD is ridiculously low these days, so there's no real reason to deprive yourself of the red side.

An A3 would have been a better route but why not. Even if studios switched to blu-ray now you won't be seeing some of their titles for a while. And you can always keep the A30 for an upconvert DVD player for another room if need be and hang on to your HD DVDs. If you can afford it why not.
i don't think your crazy for going purple who knows when the uni para are going to go blu so if you have the cash and their is movies you want grab them on HD DVD.
It's only 720p though and I am hoping to have a 1080p 50" plasma by summer, that's the only reason I went with the A30.

No, you are not crazy for going purple now. If I had disposable income I would definitely get me a combo player.

If you are happy with the A30 then keep it by all means, but depending on what plasma you get, if the deinterlacer (I think that's the right term) is as good in the TV as it is in the HD-DVD player, you should get identical pictures with the A30 and A3. I believe most people have found this to be true. Honestly, if you are purchasing these from a place where you can demo them and return one of them I would recommend purchasing both the A3 and A30 and seeing whether you can tell a difference or not between the two. IMHO, for the most part, the A30 isn't worth the difference in $$. Most people's TVs do a good enough job deinterlacing the picture that you can't tell a difference.
I ordered from Amazon, so I still have time to change the order...

unless the tv can do 24fps, in which case the A30 is the better option, for its 24fps output. other than that, there is not going to be any real difference.

I was at Fry's today. There were no BDs on sale, only HD-DVDs. I think I'll go back tomorrow and pick up "Serenity" for $14.99.

BD has had most of the BOGOs. Maybe now it'll be HD-DVD's turn.

Is your Blu a PS3? If not, then imagine how you'll feel in three months when...
