O.K. I did the math for my room and this is what I came up with:

According to my calculations I will be 3.5" short of the NEC recommendations on the throw length. And this is with only 4 inches behind the projector (I thought that would be enough for cables)

I have never had a front pj before so is 3.5" going to be a big deal? How will my picture be affected?

Thank you in advance,

Gary

p.s. The reason I have to put the pj in this location is because I have ductwork coming down in the middle of my room and it comes down about 15" so I really can not put the pj on the other side of the ductwork.

When you say 3.5" off, do you mean with the zoom fully off your picture will be to wide for the screen? If it's the opposite, you just use your zoom to fill the width. It's hard to nail the projector to the exact 16th of and inch to fill a screen with no zoom. Don't hurt yourself just use the zoom to make it easy. You'd be hard pressed to see a difference when using the zoom.

Thanks Tom. The NEC manual says a minimum of 134" for a 100" 16x9 screen so unfortunately I think the picture will be too big for the screen. My screen will be 130.5 from lense. I guess what I don't know is this: When NEC gives those minimums is that with zoom off? Is there a negative zoom? Don't laugh.. :)

The 134" figure is for max zoom. The longer dimension is for max tele. You really want to mount the PJ towards it's max distance from the screen.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I think you have to resign yourself to a smaller screen if your fixed on your mounting location.

While this is a long way to do this, why don't you mount the projector 1st and then project onto the wall to get your optimal dimensions. Then go out and buy a screen.

60 x 80 (HIGH POWER) Dalite Model-B will give you 100"s for your football games. :)

You won't be losing an inch on the 16.9 material. Plus the screen is cheap.
