Amazing new free mapping program

This is Microsoft's answer to Google Earth, but it works in a browser and has much higher rez images than Google.

It has a new feature called Bird's Eye View with super high rez satellite photos taken at an angle. And--this is the really amazing part--THE SAME TERRAIN is captured from FOUR ANGLES. I can see all four exterior walls of my house!

It is only in a few cities. Seattle has it. This web site is beautiful to look at on a nice home theater setup...

They have San Francisco, too. Here's a grab of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Can somebody tell me how one can post a higher resolution photo?

I never used Google Earth much, but I can't say this has higher resolution. Maybe it does. The pictures are definitely newer. But it missed my house by two houses when I typed in the address.

Seems a bit flaky on whether it actually goes the direction you want it to, or even on the zoom.
There's simply no comparison to Google Earth. It's that much better. Did you click Bird's Eye?

Yes, I clicked Birdseye. Again, I'm going from memory because these things facinate me only for about 5 minutes. But I'm going by remembering seeing my truck in Google Earth and my daughter's car in this thing. I think I could see my truck better in Goodgle Earth, but the leaves on the trees might be better on this thing.

BTW, couldn't get directions to work at all.
This is great for the few areas that have birdseye, otherwise it is about the same, and it is downright awful for anywhere foreign (go ahead try to find the eiffel tower with this). I also speculate that the birdseye is done with aerial photography, not satellite imagery. Not that that is bad, but more just an observation. In it's current form it is great if you live in a big city, otherwise it is just the same sattelite imagery with a better sharpen filter (this can be seen by finding the hollywood sign in both applications).

The angle is certainly different. There's a clear angle with this looking at my house, where from Google earth it was more straight down.
Big difference. They use the exact same image data, but Microsoft's doesn't seem to compress it even a fraction of what Google Earth does. Much clearer & cleaner images.
Very much depends on where you are looking. On google earth the resolution in higher density metropolitan areas is far greater than lesser density cities. Can't make definitive conclusion for either. It's a YMMV situation.

I zoomed in on 3 different cities, down to the house level, on both. The image on Microsoft's is noticably better. They both use the same remote sensing imagery for their maps, but Google must have resolution limitations in place to help with the bandwidth. At least that's my guess.

The web site is beta (how funny, Microsoft copying Google!) but the address finder DOES work. The problem is that the design of the site is confusing. There are two text boxes for searches:

The first box says "What" and is completely worthless.

The second box says "Where" and will accurately find addresses.

And guys don't forget the coolest feature: click on the compass when in Bird's Eye view and you can see the same terrain from four angles.

I got that far, but it was getting directions from one address to another that didn't work.

.
when I typed in museum it found 3 or 4 within a couple miles of me in the birds eye I was not familiar with

so its not completely worthless - plus then I typed in delicatessen and ended up with a couple so that I could get directions or a birds eye - and you can email the links to someone else as well so if you are travelling to one of the birds eye places you can plan pretty easy with this feature

delicatessen
