American Idol 7 Kicks Off With A Few Changes

Hollywood (eCanadaNow) - American Idol, Season 7 is about to kick off on Fox, but this year will be a bit different as a varied approach is going to be used. Fox has stated that it will focus more on the lives of the contestants.

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe stated that Fox is going to focus more on the contestants and their lives than it did last season.

American Idol will still be all about the singing, and the voting, then more singing, and more voting, you get the idea. That basic formula is not going to change. What is going to change though is the way in which the show is produced as Fox apparently wants fans to be able to become more in-tune with the contestants, and know how they are off of the stage and in their lives.

A couple of notables you will be seeing in American Idol, Season 7 include John Sligh, the younger brother of Chris from season six of American Idol. You will also see a lot of familiar faces in the audition rounds.

Another change is that there will be no more group numbers once they move out to Hollywood. Contestants are also now going to be allowed to play an instrument to accompany their singing onstage in Hollywood.

One thing the executive producer did state, is that their will not be another Sanjaya problem, as he stated that the top 12 will be too talented for that issue to come up.

I am weak and have set up a season pass on my TiVo for the new season of American Idol. Can no one help me?

Believe it or not, I had successfully resisted succumbing to American Idol addiction, until last season when, for the first time, I let my daughter talk me into watching it. That was a BIG mistake because, heaven help me, I'm hooked!

In my own defense, I suppose I should explain that I recorded all of last season's episodes, which allowed me to fast forward through Sanjaya's more egregious performances and some of the other dreck, too. Still, shame on me.

I hate, hate, hate the reality TV genre but AI isn't that, exactly. Instead it's an admixture of delusional but weirdly funny contestants who can't sing a lick and remarkably talented young performers who can REALLY sing. I also (usually) enjoy Simon Cowell's eye-wateringly snarky comments to the contestants. In fact his, I didn't hate it, crack has become a part of my vocabulary.

I cannot resist the train wrecks that show up to audition in these early weeks. My wife watches the show and I get sucked in each year. Love those Simon Cowell remarks.

AI must be recorded. It is too painful to sit through the 59 minutes of commercials each hour otherwise.

There's no reason for the bad people to advance past the screeners to appear before Simon/Randy/Paula other than staged shocked value, and surely lots of people "act bad" just to have their 15 minutes, but it's hard to look away sometimes.

I think Sarah is the best so far and will probably win it all.

So, did anyone notice this seasons first 'plant'? The girl in the red dress with the crazy gyrations...her left earing was off...then on...then off...then on...while she was singing and talking with the judges...

I don't mind plants (too much) to make the show more 'enjoyable' for others out there...but at least catch your silly continuity errors before you air it...or at least just let them do one take...

The girl that sang "Amazing Grace" that kickboxes is by far the most attractive girl (w/ talent) that I've seen on AI...wow...

The crazy glitter girl has a lot of talent...in improv and art...some of the work they showed of her was actually pretty good..

For those that enjoy such things....

It was mentioned last year in the AI thread to check out Linda Sharp's "Don't Get Me Started" blog/review of AI. Just google her and the title to get a link. I'm blocked at work so I can't post.

She usually had her "reviews" of the previous nights show done by early morning EST.

Nor sure whether she will continue this year or not. Seems she swears she won't every year...But we all know how THAT goes.

Dry and witty musings.

I really hate the first few weeks of Idols because of the goofy, sometimes staged performances. We saw a few decent singers, and several jokes.

However, the dude that sang the Stalker song to Paula made me cry I laughed so hard.

"If you were a bath tub, I would culk her" "If I was Columbo, I would Peter Fulker" That made me laugh.

I've been saying it for 3 years, but have always fallen....I'm going to wait and watch them AFTER the Hollywood Auditions are over. Everything up to that point is pointless to me. The goofiness was ok the first couple years, but I'm kind of over that now.
