Good morning! My current situation is that I've got two SI sealed 18" D2's in my living room running off of both channels of an EP2500.

I will be adding another 2 18's to go right behind the couch so I'm trying to decide on another amp. I think I'm going to go with D4's this time so that each will present a 2 ohm load to whatever amp I choose; more power. I am debating if I should just pick up another used EP2500 for $200 or if I should jump on one of the INuke sales. I really like the idea of the NU4-6000 so that I'll only have one amp for all four and it is light enough to fit on my component stand. I could then sell my current EP2500 and make out even better overall.

I know that tons of you are using inukes for subs, especially the DSP models, but I haven't seen someone use a NU4-6000 for subs. I understand that I'd be able to run my current two at 4 ohms each as well as two more at 2 ohms each without an issue.

Am I better off with two boat anchors or a slick new SMPS 4 channel?

I think I'm pretty much set on buying the INuke but any discussion would be appreciated. Thanks!

What are you currently using for EQ?

Yes, good question, ... also remember, for response smoothing you will need separate time alignment for the two sets of subs

Lack of method to control time alignment is the reason (I think) that while my response at the LP smoothed out when I moved one of my front subs to behind the couch, the sound ended up being smeared and incoherent depending on where you were in the room. You were on my thread for a while there, FOH. I appreciate all the help.

By the time I actually build another cabinet for two new subs behind the couch, I'll have the EQ by then.

If you are planning on adding a DSP to the mix, I'd just grab another EP2500. I'm running two of them at the moment and they are tanks. Really no roll off to speak of, powerful, and reliable. Plus, it will match the other one you have, IMO.

I guess it depends on your budget. Yes, the NU46000 is a great space save and allows for 2 ohm loads.

However, if you are running your subs in two co-located pairs, I would opt for the 6000DSP and run them in series for two 4 ohm channels and utilize the DSP to get everything dialed in.

Part of the draw to the inuke is that I don't have a good place for the current amp as it is, let alone another one; because of the weight. The one I have is sitting on one of the subs and once I finally veneer, it cannot stay there.

Gotcha. Well then an Inuke with DSP would work great and you wouldn't need the mini dsp which would save some additional funds.

Don't listen to Joe; he's still running an 1124p.
I never did try one of those and forgot they even existed.

In all seriousness, the iNuke DSP is pretty sweet for the measly $50 upcharge.

I too pondered this question a few days ago and was scolded. I think its simple. At least in my mind, you want 2 more subs, you needs more power and you need dsp. So sell the amp you have and put that money towards the 6000dsp. I am sure you can get at least half the cost of the new amp for you amp. Problem solved.

Now I have a question, how do the SI18's sound in the sealed cabinet? Is there a reason you went with sealed vs ported? I ask because I am on the fence on this, I am waiting to see how the martycubes turn out and sound before I make a decision but am still a little on the fence.

My eyes aren't so good anymore. It looks like an 1124 in your pic lol.

The same as they do in a ported.

Ported has much more output potential, albeit at the expense of extension. Depends on your goals, room, how many you're running, etc.

Ahh, that is a DCX2496...which ironically I could pretty much replicate most of what I need with the iNuke DSP.

Bass, I have 2 (for now) It will be mostly for movies and when I listen to music, its classic rock, country, jazz and some current pop for the kids. I want that punch in the chest when something blows up in a movie. I had the boom with the 2 klipsch RW-12D's but not that punch. I used to have way back when 3-10" subs in the trunk of our car and it was very punchy and those where sealed. That is why I was considering sealed. Also I know I will need to do some calibrating with the DSP but it will all be new to me so I am wondering if the ported will take more work than the sealed to get it just right.

Just about anything will be punchy in the car when the boundaries are so close and there is little leakage from the "room". Duplicating that at home is no small or cheap task.

Ported will give you much more output down to tuning but at the expense of larger cabinets and the lowest octave.

Agreed.

What is your room size again?
