I have the opportunity to pickup either an Ampro 3600 or 4600 from work that were removed from customers theaters, switched to digitals I believe. Assuming that they are in good condition what would one expect to pay for them? Knowing the typical customer we have assume somewhere between 2000-5000 hours on the units. I know they have been sitting in the stock room for atleast 4 months, not sure exactlly how long. I will have the chance to look at the tubes as the boss wants to get rid of them. I have a Sony 1270 sitting in my garage now waiting on my new house and dedicated theater to be finished. I would love to move to a 9 inch right away instead of mounting the 1270 and then upgrading to something else later.

Thanks for any help.

Go with the 9'' tubed 4600 if possible as the 3600 is a hotter running 8"PJ. My 4600 has yet to go over 31c on any day and runs cooler than a Barco 1208 / XG135lc that I also own.

Since I get my PJ's cheap (cheapskate!) alot depends on the condition of the tubes as many know. Take a LED flashlight only as regular flashlight's have a slightly warmer color temp skewing your judgment of condition

The Ampro's that I got and Ignored for months had on first inspection worn out tubes- but really what was showing was yellowed tube coolant (more so than other's for some reason) so look past this to see if any burn marks are visible.

You need the wired remote with these as their boat anchor's without, unless you do it through a computer (hassle)

If you can get them turned on the hour counter reads in Days/hours BTW

Press help on the remote to bring up the pages with all the codes to the various perimeters... crt time, self test 30 code, etc.

On price, well, condition has to be determined first of course, just know Ampro's are real sleeper's and don't bring alot of money (your benefit) if the tubes are decent.

Roughly, real roughly, I would guesstimate probably 1K less than other similar 9" machines out their simply due to their popularity being less than other talked about machines with NO drop in performance.

I would ask first what he wants to get rid of them and take it from there

Bighitter,

If you have any luck with this and there are any spare wired remotes laying around I would love to grab one. I picked up a 3600 without a remote, purchased a wireless remote only to find out, as noted above without the wired remote you have a boat anchor. Rather unattractive one to boot. PM me if you have any luck. Thanks....

MarkW, if I find an extra one I will let you know.

AVWerks,

Thanks for the information I will be able to look at these in further detail later this week.

The boss is trying to get rid of excess inventory that is just sitting in our stock room so thus the reason. There is a black barco (I believe) projector in the other stock room but I dont think it is in great condition.

Hopefully that will influence his choice on cost.

$500. each at most. Ampro's have been out of business since '99, and although they may have been good in the day, you are buying with no support whatsoever, one problem and you could have some big paperweights.

Pro resellers may charge more for them, but then again, you're not buying from a pro reseller who offers a warranty and support. Even the pro's don't price Ampro's comparably to their competition, because they just can't get the bucks for them.

I too am a cheap bastard, but I really wouldn't put out more than what I've said, for the reasons I've stated. In fact, I'd likely open with an offer of $500. for both IF they were in excellent condition, only.

Well I am taking the 4600 because it is in PRISTINE condition. I dont think I have ever seen a CRT projector this clean unless it was fresh out the box. There is a problem with the power supply or possibly the cpu but I will deal with those for the price I am getting this at. The 3600 actually ended up being a 3300, with only 435 hours. It produces a great picture though we are not sure what we are going to do with it. Thanks for the reference info guys, 9" CRTs say hello Sony 1270 say goodbye.

Bighitter, if anyone is going to use that 3300 and if it is in need of any parts, I have a 3300 that I am parting out.

I think you've already seen the tubes (still available) from this machine, Paul.

Matt: Could you resend pics and prices if you still have them handy ? Don't go to any trouble if you don't, but I desperately need something to put into my Marquee 8110's, it seems no one wants to buy projectors with a bit of burn any more, even when they're a great model and dirt cheap. Oh well, it was bound to happen.
