Does anyone know the benefits to have a specific serial number for the Ampro's. I read on another post that the 4300 can be converted into a 4600 if the serial number starts with "C". Mine starts with "D".

Does it have the necessary starting points to do the conversion?

Any pointers helpful.

That was probably mine,

The 4300's serial #'s that end with a C and beyond can use the same SMPS as the 4600. (Dual mosfet version)

The B and lower use the single mosfet SMPS version. The entire lower card area (stepped down case) is about 1/2" lower in height than the 4600. (B and lower)

What I don't know is whether the 4300 and C versions use the higher volatge HVPS (34.9K) of the 4600.

My B version has the 34K HVPS only.

Everything would be the same as a 4600 except the HVPS voltage and the focus coils (weaker magnets on the 4300 labeled PT# KNF28 vs KOH23 on the 4600)

The menus are different somewhat, The 2 critical temp readings are both displayed onscreen on the 4600 Code-39-code

The 4300 (B) displays the temp in one of the pages instead of onscreen

The main differences picture wise between them are increase focus ability and peak brightness swings of the 4600 vs the 4300, but both are essentially cut from the same cloth

What is the serial # of your HVPS?

A 4300 uses the Spellman X2102 mdl PTV34p2000xz2102

A 4600 uses the Spellman X2394 mdl PTV36p288x2394

The main differences between them come from the stronger coils and the matched higher voltage supply.

Pop the hood

Lift up the service lid at the rear exposing the cards (left and right sides) and in the middle and back is the LVPS (SMPS) and right in front of that is the HVPS

So the C uses the same HVPS as the other 4300 versions

question:

I have a chance at grabbing a 4300, and stripping it for the mint 9"LC tubes. Is this the same tube that is in the Electrohome Marquee 9500LC?

I get a mint Ampro chassis at the same time, so that's bonus (for Ampro owners) . Can sell the parts to deflect the CRT purchase price.

??

need to know soonest....thanks dudes.
