I just (finally) calibrated my system with the Avia setup disk.

Right in the disk when they are talking about SPL meters, they recommend the Radio Shack analog SPL meter, and state specifically that the digital SPL meter, while more expensive, is less accurate and less helpful for calibrating the audio in a system.

...Plus, all of the demonstrations that they do on this disk is with the analog SPL meter, so that is the one that I would recommend.

Previous posts are right on. The analog meter is much friendlier. I'm a broadcast TV sound engineer. I spend the better part of my workday mixing sound...listening to it, dorking with it and "watching it" on VU meters. How ready for the funny farm would I be if I had to read numerical interpretations of sound levels and converting the numbers into something useful in my head all day? Who NEEDS that jazz?
