Analog signal amplifier for digital antenna signal. Will it work?

I'm having trouble using some old in-house cabling to transmit my digital signal from the Direct TV antenna to the receiver at the TV. I can transmit the analog SD picture from the receiver to the TV over this line although with some noise/weak video. The receiver shows a 61 strength at the central location but when I couple the two cables and put the receiver at the TV location I get 0 signal strength. I thinking of using one of my old analog in-line amplifiers to amplify the digital stream. Will this work? Is there any possible damage to the receiver?

Chances are, one of the cables is bad.

The frequencies of interest are in the 850MHz to 1.9GHz band, a 'CATV' amplifier will not pass these signals, nor will it pass the DC from the receiver to the LNB.
