Lets hope so. Slightly excited. Not holding breath though.

Yes, for sure anamorphic formats are supported
I sat in on the subcommittee meetings as a representative of Panamorph and pitched hard for anamorphic support. I can't take total credit, though, since there were two others on the committee that backed our proposal. There is support built in for anamorphic 1920 x 1080 HD and 3840 x 2160 *UHD. Getting the studios to release content this way, though, is still the challenge. However, there is good news.

As some of you may know, Panamorph (through Folded Space) has added Deep Color Encoding (DCE) capabilities to our suite of solutions that also includes MFE (MultiFormatEncoding) support for anamorphic Blu-ray. At CES this year we got the preliminary support of a major CE manufacturer for both DCE and MFE. Having a major CE player on our side should give us more influence at the studio level.

Sorry I've been away so long - I've been working on the sound mix and music score for the film "Creep!."

Sorry I've been away so long - I've been hard at work on my first full feature film :)

This will be extremely quick, as I'm getting ready for a shoot tonight. Folded Space will probably not be a part of the actual spec. However we are still working with interested parties to make it an a feature that can be incorporated into displays and used for mastering appropriate feature films. As I've discussed at length here on this Forum, many films won't actually benefit from higher resolution, whether we are talking about anamorphic or even 4K.

More later but I'm not sure when.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the update.

At this point I'm wondering, due to the black bars being added by Java, why it would even matter whether it was part of the core specification, since it should be opaque to the user since Java is a mandatory requirement.

I'll do my part and support whatever UHD Blurays come out with Folded Space tech. I can hopefully decode it on my HTPC into full-frame anamorphic so I don't need to buy a new player.

Maybe Oppo would be a good company that could decode Folded Space MFE encoded Blurays. I'm not sure what the benefit of the enhanced color scheme is, since higher bit depths and dynamic range are part of the basic UHD Bluray spec now anyway. Including, I believe, a way to encode the basic disc as rec 709 color space plus metadata that can be used to reconstruct rec 2020 or dci p3.

Hmm. Night shoot in Colorado in January. Sounds sporty. I'm sure you know that Tarantino and his gang are over in the Telluride area.
