I know for sure i love the sub so im keeping that and the receiver....

Is there a better system then what I got out there for abour 500-600 (what i could sell my bose suff for )

I would just need the 5 speakers...im pretty new to home audio so lets have it...i think my setup is pretty damn good...is it?

You won't find any Bose fans in here. I'm not a Bose basher, but be prepared for a ruthless onslaught of vitriol.

Amidst the anti-Bose rants, you may get some good speaker recommendations, though. Just don't let the animals get under your skin.
You have a good sub, and $800 will buy you a really nice speaker setup.

My guess is the majority of people that come into this thread are going to do it for the simple reason of telling you that you got ripped off on your Bose setup. If you want to see what most people think about them a quick search will show you. As far as speaker recs just start reading.

For that budget keep the bose. They sound good with the help of your sub, getting spekers with that budget will sound the same.
don't know how the bose sounds because i never heard it - but you could go to fry's and get 2 Polk RTi8s for $300 - then to crutchfield and get the CSi3 center channel for $150 and the Rti4s for $199. That would come to $650 and be a very good system. I have no idea if it would sound better than the bose, i just know it fits your budget and sounds great. maybe someone else would be able to compare for you. Good luck!
Your best solution (unless someone chimes in with actual recomendations) is to check out the hundreds upon hundreds of "Need 5.1 for cheap" or "$500, what to get?" or "Need help with budget setup" or "New to speakers, help!".

You will literally get a LOT of great suggestions with those threads if you just go back for even a few pages.

Other then that, people really love some of the internet-direct brands offered so maybe do a search for "internet direct" and you'll get good options as well.

As for Bose, well, here's the infamous link people refer to all over the net regarding Bose: http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html
I tried to set up a link, but AVS doesn't like the store I had in mind (hint: starts with "one".) Five Infinity Primus 152s will utterly blow the Bose away.
You could check out aperionaudio.com get 4-432 L/R speakers for $400. Get the matching 422-C center for $120. Grand total $520. Find some cheap speaker stands for $50-100 for the front L/R..so still within budget. Will it sound better than your bose? well..maybe..maybe not. But Aperion doesn't charge tax, or shipping (Both ways)..so try it out for 30 days..don't think it sounds better..send it back free.

I've had a pair of bose, i thought it looked stylish, definitely saved on space, sounded pretty nice, but so far my new Aperion 533-PT are blowing them out of the water..and i still havent received my center and surrounds yet. BUT the big difference is..people will say you can find better sound speakers for possibly cheaper than Bose..if you're considering buying a new set of speakers. If you already own them, then they've lost a lot of value at that point..and what money you can get selling them off for..may not get you speakers that sound any better anymore. My suggestion if you have a credit card is try the aperions out, cus at least you got nothing to lose in there case. Or hit up frys..and try out the polk set above, and crutchfield also offers free return shipping. I like auditioning speakers at home, gives you more time to demo, less pressure from sales people..and if you don't like the product..u get ur money back as long as u dont break the stuff.

Oh come now, of course it would. Pretty much everything sounds better than Bose.

Should he "call" them??
Hello,

I would highly recommend some of Paradigm's offerings. Amazing cost/performance ratio. Audiogon is a good site to look for preowned speakers in general. The Canadian manufacturers (Paradigm, PSB, Energy, etc) offer great sound for reasonable money. Also would recommend Upscale Audio. Authorized dealer for all New gear sold on site. Great deals on PSB Image series B-Stock. Great speaker as well. I would start off as funds permit by purchasing first a good set of tower or stereo speakers and go from there.

Cheers,

Audiodork
With Aperion's return policy (30 Days, they pay freight both ways) I don't see how you could loose, plus they are highly regarded speakers.
You could get the 5.0 setup here: http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm that would be a great package for your setup.
Given

1: You are using a real sub

2: You are using what I would call "real" speakers and not the acoustimax jewel speakers

For 500 bucks I'm not sure if you'll do much better. Paradigms are nice. My dad has had a pair for as long as I can remember and they sound very good. My guess is that if you're lucky for 500 bucks you'll come out even. If you spend what the Bose stuff cost originally you'll come out way ahead.

This next paragraph is going to sound like heresy to many here, but I have a pair of Bose 301's, a pair of Wharfedale Bookshelves, and I just got a eD 6T6 MTM for a center channel. I use the Wharfedales in my bedroom system, I had been using the 301s in my living room in a stereo configuration with an Onkyo 605, and I just added the MTM as a center (3.0 now waiting on a pair of 6t6 towers and a A3-300). I am still not convinced that the 6t6 mtm sounds better than the Bose 301s. Speech through the 6t6 mtm sounds a little muddier to me. My guess is that the speaker is not appropriately broken in because it does seem to improve the longer the system stays on for. The 301s sound a little brighter too which may account for the clearer speech.

I would say if you are happy with the system you have, then stay with it. If you had a Lifestyle system and wanted to connect a HDM player and get DTS-MA/TrueHD then I'd probably tell you to sell it.

Better system out there, hell yes if you're talking about price/specs or even looks, but better sounding system to YOU...well that's another matter altogether. I have pretty much the same package you do, except for the subwoofer, and I can't complain, especially when it comes to the 701. The surround package could have been better but I stick with Bose 'cause I wanted to maintain the same tonal balance.

We all perceived things differently so do a lot of search before committing to a certain brand. I'm always searching for better sound but I have not found the need to buy something else....yet.
The weakest point in your system is the center. You might want to try a couple of the brands people have mentioned. Find the one you like the best and then when your ready, you can start replacing the others with that brand. You also could set your reciever to no or phantom for center. This sends the center signals to the fronts. Alot of times it's far better than a bad center channel.
You know if you think your speakers sound great....why bother trying to change to something else? I mean sure you could theoretically find better speakers, but I think in your price range you might not.

ok, thanks for all the info....I think my center might be a problem...it just isnt very loud on voices especially on movies...I gotta turn it way up when they talk and then when an action scne hits everything is wayy to loud and I gotta turn it down??? is that a not good center or a problems with my receiver setup?

I can sell the bose center for about $125.....what would be a great center to replace it....in the end I do want a awesome system even if it cost me $1000 in the end....I guess i could do piece by piece......

OH and the center I had before this bose (which i think i should of kept) was the JBL S Studio series center....am I right?

I would go against replacing only the center as you might have a timre matching issue. I think your best bet, get a realistic budget what you really want to spend..$1000 will give ua lot more than $500-800. Pick some stuff to demo out...see how they sound what u like best, if it's worth keeping, then keep what u want. If u dont want to keep the bose..eBay it.
