A minor skill my character has is alteration. I currently have 5 skill points in the category, certainly one of the lowest of all attributes. Of course I am looking to change this; however I cannot seem to find an alteration spell that my character can use. And in the town of Cheydinhal you are supposed to be able to buy alteration spells; but the game isn't giving me that option.


Is it because my alteration level is too low? How can I raise it if I don't have enough skill to cast even the most mundane of spells?


In fact, when I did one of the mage quests I was taught an alteration spell but I needed a skill level of 25 to even use it (which I couldn't.) so I had to use a lock pick instead. Any advise would be great.

You have to find the person in the Mages guild who sells them.

Yep, and what I recomend is if you focus on the Mages guild quest, just do what they tell ya.

i believe the alteration spell i used was "protect" on self, or something like that. then i got it up a bit, and got some latch cracks going, and it was smooth sailing from there.


you can get that a bunch of places, including a few stores.

Hi, I have a problem of missing items. Everytime I exit the game, magic items that I've created with sigil stones are missing and also my daedra hearts, and all of my potions too. What do I do? Thank you very much!

do you have the shivering isles expansion? How many hours in are you?

Same thing I did. I also did this with a light spell for Illusion.

I heard it's because of a bug in ALL the games. A buddy of mine has it for the PC (no shivering isels) and he started to loose stuff. If I remember correctly is a "form ID" bug, meaning if you've played long enough you will run out of ID's for things like enchanted weapons and armor you've created. At that point you are fine untill you exit the game. At that point all those things are gone.
