Have you all seen this "ultra-thin lightbox" for sale at this site?

The company tells me "it weighs about 15-20 pounds... It has a cord

and plug... the plug can

be stripped to be hardwired."

I'm trying to decide whether to build my own or not when I came upon this

site. Still pricey, but not $800.

I think it would be great to build your own. I love they way his poster case turned out. However when I went looking to buy the materials for that project I found that I couldn't locate the plexi for the prices he wrote down on his materials list. I went to my local Lowes and found that they didn't carry sheets that were 3'x4'x 1/8". I then went to Home Depot which didn't have any plexi at all. Their display area for the plexi was completely empty. My next stop was at a plastics shop called Tapp plastics. They qouted me a price of $106 for the two sheets of plastic needed for this project! I decided that I would buy a lighted case at that point.

Here is another link to check out for lighted poster cases: http://www.stargatecinema.com/cart/c...me.php?cat=269

I just built two of the boxes mentioned in the below link.

Like ComputerAddict mentioned above, the plexi is expensive. The time it takes to gather all of the pieces (multiple trips to many stores) should be considered before you begin. I did enjoy making my own boxes and the instructions were superb. Every project that I do, I always get a new tool out of it , so that is primarily why I do them :) The wife hasn't caught on yet.:):)

For those of you that haven't decide on building or buying...my advice is that if you can find a box for $250-$300....buy it. That's just my opinion.

The time I spent looking for plexi, gathering ballasts (lowes or HD didn't have the recommended ballast) and actually doing the project takes more time than one would think. Rewarding yes...efficient use of time...perhaps not.

Just my 2 cents....

LOL! That's too funny. :D I do the same thing HeyNow^, except my wife knows the game at this point. :) Like I always tell her, "If you want the job done right you need the right tools." ;)

If I could locate the plexi for a decent price I would build my own for sure. It would definitely be a lot more fun to build it myself.

ComputerAddict,

Actually, I thing she knows...that probably explains all of the new shoes in her closet.:) :)

I did get my plexi at Lowes. 36X48X1/8 inch sheet for $16. So it was $32 for each box just for the Plexi Glass... Lowes should stock it, you just have to check frequently. It was the cheapest I could find....

I'm on my way to Sears now to pick up a new polisher/buffer :0...she wanted the Motorhome waxed...:))

That is interesting! When I went to my local Lowes they only carried an expensive acrylic. I even asked a person that worked in that department. Also they didn't have the 3'X4' size. Instead I would have to get a 3'x6' piece that was I believe $40. I'll have to check again. If you happen to have the part# I would appreciate it.

The last time I went Sears I bought a table saw and a compound miter saw so that I could install hardwood flooring in my house.

Now she wants crown molding so, I told her I will need a compressor and a nail gun. :D

Thanks
